The students in this pod chose a sports theme so we used jerseys to track progress. Student identities were kept confidential as they chose their numbers and decorated their jerseys themselves. The paper clips indicate teams. Contact us to learn more about our program.

Under The Handshake Initiative program, each classroom must create a social contract outlining how students and staff would like to be treated in the space.  Responses to behaviors in violation of the social contract are discussed and recorded as well. Contact our team to learn more. 

Students receive rewards based on their completion of our reinforcement survey. Positive grades are promoted in addition to positive behaviors.

The Handshake Initiative is about student's succeeding. Not only in the program and school but, in life. By offering lifelines, our team reinforces the idea of teamwork and utilizing outside resources and strategies available to them. The handshake Initiative's approach partners successful students with those still struggling to promote social skills. 

The Handshake Initiative believes in celebrating small and large successes alike. When students successfully complete the initial Check In Check Out program, they become mentors to other students in their community. Mentoring opportunities also allow teachers to provide support to students who require less monitoring while rewarding their ongoing success. 

The Handshake Initiative manual includes Status Checks to aid program implementation. These status checks serve as reminders of things that the team should consider as they navigate the program with students.
